Carrie, Elise & Kelly (three real-life friends who are long-time runners and triathletes) started Team Sparkle three years ago entirely by accident.
Carrie, a talented seamstress who graduated from college with a degree in fashion, had been making sequined skirts for her daughters to play dress-up for years. When one of her daughters insisted on wearing the skirt on a mountain biking ride, Carrie loved the way the skirt sparkled in the sun & helped her see her daughter from far away.
Immediately she had an idea for the Surf City USA Marathon in Huntington Beach, California, which the three girls were planning to run together.
“Carrie said, ‘You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I think we should wear these sparkly skirts for our race. Eye-popping colors & sparkly skirts will be easy to spot in the parade of black shorts and white tanks.’”
After receiving literally hundreds of compliments & questions about the sparkly skirts during their inaugural marathon, “the girls” realized they might be able to sell the skirts, & created Team Sparkle.
